Volunteer of the Month
Bob and Jackie O'Hara

The Partnership is very lucky to have such loyal and committed volunteers such as Bob and Jackie O'Hara!

Bob and Jackie started volunteering just a year ago. They heard about the Partnership from the Shrine Scooter Club, which they are active in. They moved to Florida 12 years ago from Rochester, New York where Bob retired from the Electrical Union. Jackie always worked part-time doing office work and raising their two boys.

Jackie calls Bob "Mr. Fix-It"! We keep Bob busy in our warehouse. Jackie is a big help to us in the office by getting our files organized and helping with typing.

They are both also involved with the Greyhound Rescue working with Greyhound Adoption of Florida. They have two greyhounds of their own (Zoey, 9 and Blaise, 5)

They really enjoy coming to the Partnership and working with us and we enjoy them!

THANKS, BOB AND JACKIE!

  Bikefest Success!

What do you get when you have a weekend full of great entertainment, festive foods, awesome police and emergency support and 300,000 Bikers?
One Awesome Bikefest!

If you came looking for non-stop fun and entertainment galore, then this year's Bikefest surely delivered!

It was great to see so many of our Downtown Merchants get into the spirit of the event. Alada's had a very biker-friendly window display, Connie from A Quilter's Dream spent part of the weekend sewing patches on leather vest and jackets, Gardner's produce set up a table and cut up fresh fruit to sell to event goers and Search Me Cities set up an Internet Cafe. In talking to many merchants, the general consensus was the weekend was a success!

Here's what a few of our Downtown Merchants had to say about the weekend.

Dear Partnership,
I just wanted to take a minute and tell you how much we enjoyed our first Leesburg Bike Week experience. The atmosphere was great and the crowd was very well behaved. I lived in Daytona for 10 years and the difference between the two festivals is night and day. We sold fresh cut fruit and boiled p-nuts in front of the store both Friday and Saturday and had a blast doing so! The whole event was very well managed and you could not ask for a better turnout. What a great impact this has on the economy for all of North Lake County. Bikers were telling us that hotels were sold out all the way from Mount Dora to Clermont and as a business owner here on Main Street in Leesburg this did nothing but help my business. Thanks for all you guys have done and continue to do making downtown Leesburg a better place to live and work. Your Partnership here is truly a great model for other cities to follow in he revitalization of downtown communities.
Sincerely,
Bradley and Ruth Gardner

Here's another way Bikefest delivered...
Our preliminary counts show over $75,000 raised by Civic Clubs, School, Church and other non profit groups during the event.

This type of event takes lots of help to make it happen. So many people worked behind the scenes to make Bikefest a success.

Thanks to all our many Volunteers...VIP, Road Crew, Block Captains, Office Volunteers, Beer Crews and Merchandise Crews.

Thanks also to the City of Leesburg, Police, Fire and EMS, to the citizens of Leesburg who help to welcome our weekend guests with such wonderful hospitality
.
