King Rex & Queen Divine Candidates

King Candidate

John Sokol

I hail from just South of Chicago where I was a Firefighter, owned a restaurant and brewery and invested in real estate, including purchasing the local historic theater and rehabbing it for the community. I am now settled here in Central Florida owning the Great Chicago Fire Brewery & Tap Room, Leesburg Florida. I am the current President of the Downtown Leesburg Business Association, a member of the Leesburg Rotary. I have been a Rotarian for over 25 years. I am a Firefighter on Umatilla’s department and like one of my fellow running mates, I am proud to be an Eagle Scout. I also do local radio on WQBQ 1410 AM Radio, where I host the nightly Elvis Hour and a Gospel version on Saturdays.
I am a firm believer that you only get out of your community, what you put in! That’s why NO is not in my vocabulary. I started 3rd. Annual Bikes & BBQ 4 Autism; a yearly motorcycle event, where over the past 2 years we have raised almost $7000, which we have donated back to local organizations that help families in our community that have member with Autism. I championed Prevent-Educate an all volunteer non profit, that operates the largest program in the country for training First Responders in Autism Awareness & Interaction.
I recently purchased a second property in Downtown Leesburg to host my newest project; the Military Fire Police Support Association – MFPSA Leesburg FL . It will be a new restaurant and bar operated by the MFPSA; a Florida non-profit. It will be a way to help raise money quicker to support many of the causes that are dear to my heart. All proceeds will go back into the community.
In closing I ask for your support in my bid for Leesburg Mardi Gras King. I will do my part to continue to be a strong representative of Leesburg. Thank you!

Queen Candidate

Lyndsi Johnson

Lyndsi Johnson is on her quest to be your Leesburg Mardi Gras Queen Divine!
She believes in supporting the community that has supported her throughout the years. Mardi Gras is just one of the many events (Bikefest, Boo Bash, 4th of July, Craft Beer, the list goes on..) put on by the Leesburg Partnership that benefits the Leesburg and surrounding communities.

On this quest, Lyndsi wants to show that all women have a Warrior within them. Between having a full-time career, participating and volunteering in community events, serving as a board member, being a wife to a wonderful husband and mother to their beautiful one-year-old son, she proves every day that women really can do it all!

Please help her on her quest by donating, sponsoring, purchasing Reverse Draw Tickets, Mardi Gras Crowning Ball tickets, and attending all of the fun Mardi Gras Mixers! All donations are Tax Deductible!!!
Thank you for your support! I look forward to being your Mardi Gras QUEEN DIVINE!!!

John Mayfield

I am a 4th generation Leesburg resident. My family was involved in the citrus growing, packing and shipping industry, until freezes and development changed the direction of our area. I went through school in Leesburg, became an Eagle Scout in Leesburg, and graduated from Leesburg High School. After college, I went out to make my way in the world. Ten years ago, the pull to return to Leesburg became irresistible; and I moved back home. I am a licensed funeral director and have been with Beyers Funeral Home for 10 years now. The thing I love about my work is that I meet families on what is often their most difficult day; and I have the opportunity to make that day a little bit easier for them. I am fortunate to work for an employer who encourages its employees to be involved in the community. I serve as an advisor to the Lone Oak Cemetery Board and serve as a guide for the annual Moonlight Stroll. I am a member of the Leesburg Boat Club, and the Palmora Park Neighborhood Association. I support many activities of the Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Leesburg Center for the Arts, as well as the Leesburg Partnership. I am an active member of the addiction recovery community. I volunteer and participate in the annual Amazing Race for Charity, which raises funds for numerous local nonprofit organizations each year. My greatest accomplishment, however, are my three children, Megan, Andrew and Logan. I humbly ask for your consideration as I seek to support the Leesburg Partnership (a 501c3 charitable organization) by running for Leesburg Mardi Gras King Rex! Please “like” my page and consider purchasing $100 “Reverse Draw” tickets for a chance to win $10,000 or many other second-chance prizes.

Steve Bell

Viva Las Leesburg! Four years ago, Donna and I moved from Memphis to The Villages to take advantage of the lifestyle offerings, growing friendships, the weather and having low taxes. We could not have guessed that while our house is in The Villages, that Leesburg would become our Hometown.
We have benefited from so many relationships, business and social. For example, its Starlight Ballroom for dancing, Two Old Hags for wine and fellowship, Main Street Dentists for dental care, Michael’s Couture Salon for Hair, skin and nails, Turners for fine dining, Davis-Harris Cleaners for clothes, and Nicki Lord Massage Therapy for relaxation. Further, our daughter recovered at Leesburg Regional Medical Center after sustaining a serious injury (Great Care). We’ve also enjoyed and supported The Leesburg Center for the Arts.
Thank you, Leesburg, for adopting us, too! Thank You Very Much!!!
